How to convert FBX to WRL
- Add your .FBX file - drop it in the box above or click to browse.
- Convert it to .WRL in a few seconds.
- Download your new .WRL file.
What to expect
- Animation (keyframes, rigs, skin weights) is not supported - the exported
.wrlcontains a static mesh in the default pose only. - PBR materials and texture maps are reduced to basic color and transparency; expect visible differences from the original FBX render.
- WRL is plain ASCII text - file sizes are larger than binary formats and can be slow to parse on dense meshes.
Frequently asked questions
Which VRML version does the conversion produce?
VRML 2.0 (ISO/IEC 14772), identified by the
#VRML V2.0 utf8 header. Most tools that accept .wrl expect VRML 2.0.Will animation from the FBX be included in the WRL?
No - animation is not transferred. The
.wrl file contains the mesh in its default pose only. Why does the exported model look rotated in my VRML viewer?
FBX can use Y-up or Z-up coordinates while VRML 2.0 is Y-up. Set axis orientation explicitly in your export tool to match your viewer's expectation.
Is WRL still a useful format?
Only for legacy pipelines - VRML was succeeded by X3D and then glTF. If you control the target software, glTF is the modern choice for web and real-time use.
