How to convert DAV to FLV
- Add your .DAV file - drop it in the box above or click to browse.
- Convert it to .FLV in a few seconds.
- Download your new .FLV file.
What to expect
- The video is transcoded into FLV; any timestamp or camera overlay baked into the footage remains in the picture.
- FLV is a legacy Flash-era container, fine for playback in VLC, though MP4 is more broadly compatible.
- Re-encoding alters the data, so retain the original DAV for evidential purposes.
Frequently asked questions
Will the video quality hold up converting DAV to FLV?
FLV can carry H.264, so the picture may transfer with only a repackage or a single re-encode; any quality loss comes from re-encoding. Surveillance overlays such as timestamp and camera ID stay burned into the frame.
Why convert a DAV to FLV?
DAV is Dahua's proprietary CCTV container that normally needs Dahua's SmartPlayer, while FLV is a widely recognized video format. Converting makes the footage play in ordinary players.
Where does the FLV open?
VLC plays FLV on any platform without Flash. Flash Player itself is end-of-life, but the FLV is just video data, not interactive Flash.
Are there caveats for surveillance footage?
DAV audio (often G.711) and some lightly scrambled DAV streams may not carry over cleanly, and re-encoding can be questioned for evidential use. Keep the original DAV file.
