Why convert DATA to CSV?
An Analysis Studio .data file stores tabular records as tab-delimited plain text, but the .data extension is not recognized by most tools. Saving as .csv makes the data immediately readable by any spreadsheet, database, or analysis pipeline without configuring a custom importer.
How to convert DATA to CSV
LibreOffice Calc FREE
Open the .data file in LibreOffice Calc - the Text Import dialog appears automatically; set the delimiter to Tab, enter the number of header rows to skip, then save as Text CSV.
Microsoft Excel APP
Use Data > Get Data > From File > From Text/CSV, set the delimiter to Tab, remove metadata rows via Transform Data, then save as CSV UTF-8.
Numbers FREE
Open the .data file in Numbers, set the delimiter to Tab if prompted, delete any metadata rows manually, then export via File > Export To > CSV.

- The file is already plain ASCII/UTF-8 text; converting to CSV only changes the delimiter from tab to comma and the extension - no data is lost.
- The
.datafile typically contains metadata header rows before the actual data; count and skip these in the import wizard to keep columns aligned. - Keep the companion
.stpfile alongside the original.dataif you may need to reload the project in Analysis Studio.
Frequently asked questions

What if the file looks like binary?
.data extension is used by many unrelated programs; if the content is binary, it is a different format and these steps do not apply.
