Convert DATA to STP

Can you convert DATA to STP?
QUICK ANSWER
Is it possible to convert DATA to STP?
No - not a direct conversion.

There is no conversion path from a tabular data file to a 3D CAD format. If you need to extract data from an Analysis Studio .data file, import it into LibreOffice Calc or Excel and save as CSV or XLSX.

Why convert DATA to STP?

The Analysis Studio .data file is plain tab-delimited text storing data records. The .stp format is the ISO 10303 STEP standard for neutral 3D CAD boundary-representation geometry - a completely different domain. Even within Analysis Studio, where .stp is also used as a companion schema file, that schema is written by the application alongside the .data and cannot be reconstructed from the data rows alone, because column names and project metadata were never stored inside the .data.

How to convert DATA to STP

LibreOffice Calc FREE

Open the .data file in LibreOffice Calc with Tab as the delimiter, skip the header rows, and save as CSV or XLSX to extract the data in a usable format.

Microsoft Excel APP

Use Data > From Text/CSV to import the .data file with Tab as the delimiter, then save as a spreadsheet to use the data outside Analysis Studio.

About these formats

Quality & what to watch

  • If you have both the .data and its companion .stp schema file, open the project directly in Analysis Studio - there is nothing to convert.
  • If the .stp companion is missing, the schema cannot be recovered from the .data rows alone; check backups or the original source for the paired file.
  • The Analysis Studio .stp format is not publicly documented, so no third-party tool can generate one.

Frequently asked questions

I have a `.data` file but no `.stp`. Can I recover the schema?
No - the schema was stored only in the .stp; without it you can read the raw values but cannot recover column names or project metadata.
Can I create an `.stp` file manually?
There is no public specification for the Analysis Studio .stp format and no tool to assist, so it is not practically achievable.
Can I open a `.data` file without its `.stp`?
Yes, in a text editor or spreadsheet as tab-delimited text, but column names and Analysis Studio metadata will be absent.
