Why convert BBMODEL to GLTF?
.bbmodel is the editable Blockbench project, while .gltf is the open, widely supported glTF 2.0 transmission format used by game engines and web 3D viewers. Exporting to .gltf turns a Minecraft-style box model into a standard mesh that three.js, Babylon.js, Godot and Unity can load.
How to convert BBMODEL to GLTF
Blockbench (File > Export as glTF) OPEN-SOURCE
Open the .bbmodel, then run File > Export > Export as glTF and keep the .gltf (text) option. Blockbench writes the .gltf alongside its texture.
Blender (import then export glTF 2.0) FREE
Import an intermediate .obj or .gltf from Blockbench into Blender, then use File > Export > glTF 2.0 (.gltf Separate) to fine-tune materials before writing the final .gltf.
About these formats
A .bbmodel file is the native project file of Blockbench, a free 3D model editor used mainly for Minecraft and other low-poly game models. It is a JSON text file that stores the geometry,…

- During export Blockbench triangulates quads and no longer shares vertices between faces, so the
.gltfmesh is denser than the original box model. - A text
.gltfusually references its texture and buffer as separate files; keep them together or pick.glbif you need a single self-contained file. .gltfis meant for rendering and interchange, not re-editing - the editable cube structure of the.bbmodelis not recoverable from it.

Where does the texture go?
.gltf typically writes the texture as a separate image next to it, so move both files together.
