Can I convert ARW to PSD without Photoshop?

Does the PSD keep the original raw data?
Not by default; a standard PSD contains the developed, pixel-rendered image. Photoshop's Smart Object option embeds the .arw inside the PSD, keeping raw settings editable.
My ARW will not open in Camera Raw - what do I do?
Your Camera Raw version may not yet support your Sony body; run Photoshop updates or convert the .arw to .dng first with the free Adobe DNG Converter.
Should I save as PSD or TIFF after developing an ARW?
Use PSD when you need Photoshop layers or adjustment layers; a 16-bit TIFF is a better portable flat master if you are not adding layers.
