Why convert ADF to HDF?
ADF is a 880 KB Amiga floppy image from the late 1980s; an Amiga HDF is a hard disk image of arbitrary size. Moving content to an HDF allows faster loading, combining files from multiple floppies into a single image, and configuring the hard disk as the default boot device in an emulator.
How to convert ADF to HDF
WinUAE FREE
Create a new HDF via WinUAE's HD settings, add the .adf to floppy drive DF0, boot the emulator, format the hard disk from the Amiga Shell with Format DH0: FFS NOICONS, then copy files with Copy DF0: DH0: ALL.
FS-UAE FREE
Configure the .adf as a floppy and a new HDF as a hard drive in the FS-UAE launcher, then perform the copy from within the running Amiga environment.

- ADF and Amiga HDF are images of different media types - floppy versus hard disk - so the transfer must happen inside a running emulator rather than via a direct file converter.
- A legal Kickstart ROM is required to boot WinUAE or FS-UAE; it is available with the commercial Amiga Forever package or by dumping it from hardware you own.
- Copy-protected game disks often cannot be fully captured as plain ADF and will not transfer correctly to an HDF.
