Why convert ACSM to MOBI?
An .acsm file is a ~2 KB XML token (introduced 2008) pointing to a book on Adobe's Content Server. Even after Adobe Digital Editions redeems it, the delivered file is encrypted with Adobe's ADEPT DRM, which is incompatible with Amazon's Kindle ecosystem. The two DRM systems cannot be bridged by any legitimate converter, and Kindle devices and apps do not support Adobe DRM at all.
How to convert ACSM to MOBI
Calibre FREE
If you obtain a DRM-free EPUB from the publisher or a DRM-free store, Calibre can convert it to MOBI - but Calibre cannot process ADEPT DRM-protected files and will error on them.
Send to Kindle FREE
If you have a DRM-free EPUB, send it to your Kindle device or app using the Send to Kindle service - this bypasses the need for MOBI conversion entirely.

Open .MOBI details →Quality & what to watch
- No legitimate tool can move a book from Adobe's ADEPT DRM ecosystem to Kindle's ecosystem - the two DRM systems are incompatible.
- Some publishers (such as Smashwords and Baen) sell EPUB and MOBI files without DRM; a DRM-free EPUB can be converted to MOBI with Calibre.
- Library loans fulfilled via ACSM cannot be moved to Kindle under any circumstances.
