.wpd is a text document file associated with WordPerfect. Most word processors support this format. .wpd files store formatted text along with optional table data or images. Older releases used the proprietary WordPerfect Character Set; newer versions added Unicode support.
History of WordPerfect
WordPerfect was originally released in 1982 and quickly became one of the most popular word processor applications. It offered a wide variety of plugins and extensions that further expanded its capabilities. The introduction of GUI word processors made WordPerfect less relevant, only to later become displaced by more modern tools. WordPerfect is still actively developed by Corel, and .wpd is still used - particularly in US legal and government offices. Files carry the four-byte signature FF 57 50 43 and embed formatting codes among the text, enabling WordPerfect's distinctive Reveal Codes feature. LibreOffice Writer and Microsoft Word both open .wpd files; on Linux, wpd2odt converts them from the command line.

РИСК: LOWA .wpd is a document, not an executable, so it is low-risk. Old WordPerfect documents could contain macros, but these only run inside WordPerfect and are rarely a modern threat. Files begin with the signature FF 57 50 43 ("<0xFF>WPC"). The next bytes give the document area pointer and a product/file-type byte (0x01 = WordPerfect document) plus major/minor format version, so a tool can tell WP5 from WP6 from the header.
