Чего ожидать
- Re-encoding is mandatory - MKV usually holds H.264 or H.265 video, while VOB requires MPEG-2, so quality always drops and file sizes are often larger than the source.
- DVD-Video caps resolution at 720×480 (NTSC) or 720×576 (PAL), so any HD or 4K MKV is scaled down.
- VOB files only work as part of a complete
VIDEO_TSfolder (with.ifoand.bupfiles); copying a singleVOBalone will not play on a standalone DVD player.
Часто задаваемые вопросы
Can I convert MKV to VOB without re-encoding?
No. MKV typically stores H.264 or H.265 video, while VOB requires MPEG-2 - these are different codecs, so transcoding is unavoidable.
Will the VOB file play in VLC?
Yes, VLC plays single
VOB files directly. A standalone DVD player needs the complete VIDEO_TS folder structure (VOB + IFO + BUP files), not just one file. How long does conversion take?
Typically 30-90 minutes for a 90-minute MKV on a modern CPU, since the entire video is re-encoded from scratch to MPEG-2.
What happens to the audio and subtitles?
The first audio track is re-encoded to AC-3 (Dolby Digital); text-based subtitles (SRT, ASS) are converted to image-based DVD subtitles inside the VOB - check your authoring tool to confirm the correct tracks are selected.
