How to convert HEIF to PNG
- Add your .HEIF file - drop it in the box above or click to browse.
- Convert it to .PNG in a few seconds.
- Download your new .PNG file.
What to expect
- The conversion is lossless, but expect a noticeably larger file than the original HEIF.
- Live Photos, depth maps and bursts stored in HEIF are flattened to a single still image.
- For photographs where size matters, JPG is often a better target than PNG; choose PNG for transparency or sharp-edged graphics.
Frequently asked questions
Will converting HEIF to PNG lose quality?
No. PNG is lossless, so the decoded image is saved pixel-for-pixel. The conversion itself adds no loss - the original HEIF compression is already part of the image.
Why is the PNG so much larger than the HEIF?
HEIF uses efficient HEVC compression, while PNG is lossless. The same picture is typically several times larger as a PNG.
Does the PNG keep transparency and metadata?
PNG keeps transparency if the source had it. Most EXIF metadata such as location and camera info is not carried into the PNG - convenient if you want it stripped, but note it is gone.
Why convert HEIF to PNG?
HEIF (the .heic/.heif photos iPhones produce) is not supported everywhere. PNG opens in every image viewer and editor, making it the universal choice - especially for screenshots, graphics and images that need transparency.
