.abm is a binary file format developed by ArcSoft, Inc. as the native album container for ArcSoft PhotoStudio. It is a proprietary format for storing various image data - in the form of references to actual image files - along with collections, metadata, and thumbnails. An .abm album file works much like a playlist for photos: it groups a set of pictures into one browsable package without necessarily copying the source images. .abm album files can be used to create multimedia presentations or to organize and share edited images.
The .abm format is not standardized. .abm files created with one application may not be compatible with other applications that also use .abm files. Files can differ widely regarding size and supported features depending on the PhotoStudio version that produced them. Crucially, .abm files do not store any actual image data by default - they hold references to JPEG or PNG files on disk. Moving or deleting the referenced photos will break the album.

The practical risks are data-loss ones, not malware: if the album only REFERENCES your photos, deleting or moving the originals loses the pictures (the .abm keeps only small thumbnails), so back up the source images. As always, be cautious with unexpected files from untrusted sources, and make sure you've correctly identified the .abm type (photo album vs the unrelated music/database uses) before assuming what's inside.
