Why convert KMZ to DXF?
KMZ is a geographic format for viewing maps in Google Earth or GIS tools. DXF is the CAD interchange format that AutoCAD and most engineering tools use for drawings and plans. Converting lets you bring boundary lines, survey paths, or site perimeters from a Google Earth map into a CAD workflow.
How to convert KMZ to DXF
QGIS FREE
Add the .kmz via Layer > Add Vector Layer, right-click the layer, choose Export > Save Features As, set format to AutoCAD DXF, optionally set a projected CRS, and click OK.
ogr2ogr FREE
Run ogr2ogr -f DXF output.dxf input.kmz; add -t_srs EPSG:32633 (or your local UTM zone) to reproject from geographic WGS 84 to a projected coordinate system.

About these formats
A KMZ file is a ZIP-compressed Google Earth map - it holds placemarks, routes, polygons, image overlays and sometimes 3D models in one portable package. Open it with the free Google Earth…
Open .KMZ details →A DXF file is a CAD drawing in Autodesk's Drawing Exchange Format, introduced in 1982 so drawings could move between AutoCAD and other programs. To view one free, upload it to Autodesk…

- KMZ stores coordinates in geographic WGS 84 (latitude/longitude); exporting without reprojecting delivers DXF geometry in degree-decimal units, which may cause confusion in CAD workflows expecting metric distances.
- Points, lines, and polygons become DXF POINT, LWPOLYLINE, and HATCH entities; placemark names may carry over as layer names or text attributes.
- Google Earth styling (line colors, icon images, fill transparency) and any ground-overlay images do not transfer to DXF.
