Why convert CRYPT to CRYPT12?
Each .crypt suffix represents a specific AES encryption scheme used by the WhatsApp version that wrote the backup. A WhatsApp Encrypted Message Database Backup with a .crypt14 or .crypt15 suffix cannot be downgraded to .crypt12 because doing so would require decrypting the backup with the phone's key and re-encrypting with an older scheme - an operation no consumer tool supports and that WhatsApp itself does not require.

- WhatsApp recognizes all its own older backup versions and can restore from
.crypt12even if the current app creates.crypt14or.crypt15. - No legitimate tool converts
.cryptto.crypt12; the version suffix is a property of the encryption round, not the file container. - To export individual chats without handling the backup file, use WhatsApp's built-in Export chat feature (More > Export chat) in the app.
