.seam is a URL suffix associated with the JBoss Seam Framework for developing interactive web pages and applications. Rather than a file stored on disk, .seam is a servlet mapping - entries in web.xml route every *.seam URL to the Seam/JSF front-controller, which renders the underlying .xhtml Facelet or .jsp page and returns standard HTML to the browser. The actual source files on the server are Java-backed templates using JSF components and EJB3 beans. A Java application server such as JBoss/WildFly, Tomcat, or GlassFish is required to serve .seam requests - the client needs only a web browser. If you save a .seam page from a browser, what you receive is rendered HTML that opens in any browser like a regular .html file.
Seam technology was commonly used for creating dynamic web applications following the concept of RIA (Rich Internet Application). RIA applications allow users to interact with the app via a defined interface without reloading the whole page each time a user interacts with any page element. Such apps are typically single-page applications with one active rendering window used to deliver content. RIA apps load into the browser's memory and retrieve data from databases or APIs referenced by server-side Seam components; Seam paired with libraries like RichFaces to deliver AJAX-driven partial page updates within the JSF lifecycle.
Active development was halted when Red Hat discontinued Seam 3 around 2012; the ecosystem has since moved to CDI and Jakarta Faces, where .xhtml Facelets remain the standard view technology.

РИСК: LOWVisiting a .seam URL is as safe (or unsafe) as visiting any web page - it returns HTML from a server, with no special file type to download. Normal web caution applies: only enter credentials or sensitive data on .seam pages served over HTTPS by a site you trust, since Seam apps are often internal business systems (the data shown, like a sales report, may be confidential). A saved .seam page is plain HTML and cannot run on its own; the usual risk is phishing pages dressed up as a familiar Seam application, not the .seam suffix itself.
