VP3 is the native embroidery format for Husqvarna Viking and Pfaff machines, which cannot read .pes files. Anyone who has a Brother-format design and wants to sew it on a Husqvarna Viking or Pfaff machine must convert it first. Both formats store stitch coordinates, jump and trim commands, and color-change stops.
