БЫСТРЫЙ ОТВЕТ
Возможно ли конвертировать PAK в TAR?
Нет - нет прямой конвертации.

TAR is a Unix archiving format with no connection to any game engine. If you need to access the assets inside the PAK, extract them with the appropriate tool for your game; if you want to back up the file, keep the original .pak or wrap it in a ZIP.

Зачем конвертировать PAK в TAR?

A PAK file is a game asset container whose engine-specific internal layout the runtime reads directly at load time. TAR (introduced in 1979 as a Unix tape archive format) concatenates files into a sequential stream with no game-engine role. Repacking PAK assets into TAR loses the original structure, no game loader reads TAR files, and nothing is gained over simply extracting the assets to a folder.

Способы конвертации PAK в TAR

Dragon UnPACKer FREE

If you need the assets inside the PAK, use Dragon UnPACKer to extract them to a folder and work with those files directly, without repacking into any archive format.

PakExplorer FREE

For Quake/id-style PAK files, PakExplorer browses and extracts assets to a folder; the extracted files can then be archived in whatever format your workflow actually requires.

Качество и на что обратить внимание

  • No game engine reads TAR as its data source - the result of this conversion is an archive that no software in a typical game-modding workflow needs.
  • The .pak extension is shared by many unrelated engine formats; the right extractor depends on which game or engine produced the file.
  • Do not delete or rename .pak files in a game's install folder - they hold core game data and removing them breaks the game.

Часто задаваемые вопросы

Can any converter turn PAK into TAR?
Some generic tools may technically extract PAK contents and repack them as TAR, but the result is useless since no game engine loads TAR files.
Is TAR at least a safe way to archive extracted game assets?
TAR is a valid archive format for backup, but ZIP or 7Z serve the same purpose and are more widely supported on Windows, offering no advantage here.
Can I compress game PAK files to save disk space?
No - the game engine reads its PAK files directly from the install path; replacing them with any other archive format, including TAR, will break the game.
