- Converting EOT to OTF is lossless - the original font outlines are embedded unchanged inside the EOT wrapper.
- EOT files are often subsets: only the glyphs needed for a specific website were included, so missing characters in the output were never there to begin with.
- Stripping the EOT wrapper does not change the font's license - verify the terms before redistributing the converted
.otf.
Часто задаваемые вопросы
Does converting EOT to OTF reduce quality?
No. EOT stores the original font outlines unchanged; conversion just removes the EOT wrapper, leaving the glyph data intact.
Why is my converted OTF missing characters?
EOT files are typically subsets created for a specific website containing only the glyphs actually used - the missing characters were never embedded in the EOT.
Can I legally convert and use the OTF?
It depends on the font's license. Open-source fonts (SIL OFL, Apache) are generally fine; check the terms for any commercial font before redistributing.
What if I need a web font, not a desktop font?
Convert the resulting
.otf to .woff2 - it is the current web standard and is smaller than OTF served over HTTP.
