RISPOSTA RAPIDA
È possibile convertire PKG in RPM?
No - non è una conversione diretta.

There is no converter that produces a working .rpm from a macOS .pkg because the executables inside are Mach-O binaries compiled for macOS, not Linux ELF binaries. Find the .rpm the developer publishes for Linux separately.

Perché convertire PKG in RPM?

A .pkg contains Mach-O executables targeting the macOS kernel and Apple system libraries, alongside macOS filesystem paths like /Applications and /Library. An .rpm expects ELF binaries, Linux filesystem paths, and Linux package dependencies. Repackaging the Mac binaries into an RPM header produces an archive that installs files that cannot execute on Linux.

Come convertire PKG in RPM

alien FREE

If the software ships a .deb for Linux, download that and run alien --to-rpm package.deb to produce an .rpm - alien converts between Linux package formats but cannot process macOS .pkg files.

Qualità e a cosa prestare attenzione

  • Extracting a .pkg with xar -xf yields Mach-O binaries that will not execute on Linux regardless of how they are repackaged.
  • Most cross-platform software that ships a .pkg for macOS also publishes an .rpm or Flatpak for Linux - check the developer's download page or use dnf search <appname>.
  • The alien tool converts between Linux formats (.deb, .rpm, .tgz) but has no support for macOS XAR packages.

Domande frequenti

Can I repackage a macOS app from a `.pkg` into an RPM manually?
Only if the developer also provides Linux binaries separately - Mach-O executables from a macOS .pkg will not run on Linux regardless of packaging.
Is there any tool that converts PKG to RPM?
No tool does this in any meaningful way. Any converter that claims to handle this either does nothing useful or simply extracts the archive without producing a functional Linux package.
I need the same software on macOS and Linux - what is the right approach?
Download the appropriate package for each platform from the developer - a .pkg for macOS and a .rpm or .deb for Linux, usually offered on the same download page.
