STL is the standard format for 3D printing. Slicers such as Cura, PrusaSlicer, and Bambu Studio read STL, not CAD part files. Converting a Solid Edge part to STL is how engineers hand off geometry to a print service, prototype shop, or their own printer.

  • STL stores a triangulated surface mesh only - no feature tree, sketch history, parameters, or material properties. Keep the original .par for any future edits.
  • Mesh quality depends on tessellation settings: lower the surface deviation in Solid Edge's export options to reduce visible faceting on cylinders and fillets.
  • Units are not embedded in STL - set mm or inches in the export options to match what your slicer expects.
