Зачем конвертировать GPX в GDB?

GDB is the native format of Garmin BaseCamp, which manages waypoints, routes and tracks and pushes them directly to a Garmin device. If your workflow is centered on BaseCamp - editing routes or syncing to a Garmin GPS unit - working in GDB is more natural than re-importing a .gpx each session.

Качество и на что обратить внимание

  • Waypoints (name, coordinates, elevation, symbol), routes and tracks all transfer cleanly to GDB.
  • GPX extension data such as heart rate, cadence or temperature is dropped; use FIT or TCX if you need to preserve fitness metrics.
  • GDB is a proprietary Garmin format readable only by BaseCamp and older MapSource; keep the .gpx if you are not in a Garmin-centered workflow.

Часто задаваемые вопросы

Do I need a Garmin account to use BaseCamp?
No, Garmin BaseCamp is free to download and use without an account.
Will MapSource open the GDB that BaseCamp creates?
BaseCamp writes GDB v3, which older MapSource versions may not open; GPSBabel lets you target an older GDB version if compatibility is needed.
Why not just use GPX with my Garmin device?
Many Garmin devices and Garmin Connect accept GPX directly; GDB is only needed if you manage data through BaseCamp.
