What is MMAP file?

MMAP file format is used by MindManager software, a tool for ”brainstorming” and business strategy planning. MMAP files hold ”mind maps”, which contain such elements as images, icons, equations, lines, objects, text etc. that constitute a diagram.

MMAP is a document file stored in binary format and compressed using ZIP algorithm to reduce file size. MMAP files have a defined folder structure with the following elements:

• document.xml – main file,
• Preview.png – preview image,
• XML files in xsd catalog,
• bin folder – additional images and other objects.

XMMAP is a XML version of MMAP format.

Step 1. Download and install Mindjet

• Choose the Open with entry from the file menu accessed by right-mouse clicking on the MMAP file
• Next, select the Choose another app option and then using More apps open the list of available applications
• To finalize the process, select Look for another app on this PC entry and using the file explorer select the Mindjet installation folder. Confirm by checking Always use this app to open MMAP files box and clicking OK button.

The procedure to change the default program in Mac OS

• By clicking right mouse button on the selected MMAP file open the file menu and choose Information
• Find the Open with option – click the title if its hidden
• From the list choose the appropriate program and confirm by clicking Change for all....
• Finally, a This change will be applied to all files with MMAP extension message should pop-up. Click Continue button in order to confirm your choice.

Step 4. Verify that the MMAP is not faulty

If you followed the instructions form the previous steps yet the issue is still not solved, you should verify the MMAP file in question. Problems with opening the file may arise due to various reasons.
